Appliances on Hollr

Talk to an appliance tech on video, in minutes.

Point your phone at the washer, the fridge or the dishwasher that's acting up. An appliance tech tells you what's likely wrong, what to check, and whether it's worth a repair visit.

$34 for 15 minutes · $59 for 30 · you only pay when a appliance tech connects

What a appliance tech can help with on video

A washer that won't drain

Often a clogged pump filter, a kinked hose or a lid switch. A tech can tell which from the model and the sounds it makes.

A fridge that isn't cooling

Dusty condenser coils, a blocked vent or a stuck defrost cycle. Show the back and the freezer and they'll narrow it down.

A dishwasher left with standing water

Check the filter, the drain hose and the garbage disposal knockout before you call for a part.

A dryer that runs but won't heat

Usually a thermal fuse, a heating element or a lint-packed vent. They'll tell you what to look at first.

An error code on the display

Read it out or point the camera at it. A tech can tell you what it means for your make and model.

A new noise, leak or smell

Grinding, squealing or a puddle underneath. Learn whether it's safe to keep using it until a repair.

What works on video, and what needs a visit

Good for a video call

  • Read an error code and explain what it means
  • Find the model number and the exact part to order
  • Walk you through cleaning a pump filter or condenser coils
  • Tell you whether a repair is worth it or it's time to replace
  • Explain a repair quote you've already been given

Needs hands on site

  • Gas connections on a gas range or dryer
  • Opening a sealed refrigerant system or recharging it
  • Work inside a unit that's still plugged in
  • Live electrical panels or circuit wiring

Your appliance tech tells you when it's one of these, and why.

Before you call

Who licenses appliance techs in Canada

Appliance service is a voluntary trade in most of Canada, so a certificate isn't required by law to repair appliances. Gas appliances are different: connecting or servicing the gas side needs a certified gas technician. How Hollr checks licences.

Appliances questions

Can an appliance tech really help over video?

Often, yes. Many appliance problems come down to a clogged filter, a blocked vent, a tripped reset or a part that's easy to name once a tech hears the noise or sees the error code. If it needs meters, a sealed-system repair or a part swap you're not comfortable with, they'll say so on the call.

Is it safe to open up my appliance during the call?

Only once it's unplugged or its breaker is off. Your tech will ask you to confirm that before you remove any panel. On a gas range or gas dryer, nobody touches the gas connection on a video call. That work goes to a certified gas technician in person.

Should I repair my appliance or replace it?

It depends on the age of the unit, the part and what a repair visit would cost. Show your tech the model label and the problem, and they'll give you a straight read on whether a repair is worth it before you book anyone.

How much does an appliance video call cost?

$34 CAD for 15 minutes or $59 CAD for 30 minutes. You see the price before the call starts and only pay when an appliance tech connects. Pick 30 minutes if you expect to work through a fix step by step while your tech watches.
